All About Me!

photoHave you ever had that hobby that you could find wasting a whole day doing? Well, that’s me when it comes to reading books. Though I do not find it as a waste. My full time job I am a teacher at an elementary school here in Durham, NC. I have worked with the school system going on 16 years. I started out as a Teacher Assistant, or Instructional Assistant as they are called now. Any of my students could tell you that I am a bookworm. The first question they would ask me after our winter break was always, “How many books did you read Ms. Cross?”

I am a single mom of two, Amber, 23 and James 20. They have been my inspiration over the years through going back to school and following my dreams. I started my college education in my thirties. Yes, I was a late bloomer for deciding on what I wanted to do in life. Over the years I am still finding that there are other things that I would like to do as well.

As I said, reading is my favorite past time. Friends will see me in our local Starbucks, (which is where my daughter works) reading a book one day, then sometimes the very next day they see me reading another. In the summer I tend to go through several and they are amazed. What can I say? I love taking my mind to another place and absorbing myself in somebody else’s life even if it is fiction. That is the cheapest way to travel to places that you would love to visit as well. (I love my Irish stories.) I tell my students all the time that a good book can take you anywhere you want to go. So sit back, take some time to read over my posted reviews to see if there is a book you would like to take a trip in. If you have one you think I might like, just let me know. I will try to post a review on it as well.

  1. I love the ‘take a trip in’ idea of books. When I was in college, studying to be a teacher, I had to make a poster. My theme was Take a Trip on Reading. The poster had things like: a full moon and you pulled a tab to read “First Men on the Moon”; a raft in the river whose tab said “Huckleberry Finn”; and a mountain with “Jim Bridger, Mountain Man on its tab.

I am putting together a blog tour for Michele Poague’s latest book, Ransom. The tour runs from October 21st until November 18th and I was wondering if you would like to be a stop on the tour. I can be reached at BetteRose (at) aol (dot) com for more information and a synopsis without spoilers.
