In my opinion sometimes that is hard when you read a memoir. Or maybe I just end up with the wrong ones until I read this recent one that has hit the new release section at Barnes & Noble. Romance Is My Day Job, A Memoir of Finding Love at Last, written by Patience Bloom, was one of those memoirs that left you feeling wonderful about life. Now after reading the title you might be thinking, “ummm one of those books about romance.” Yes and no. Patience Bloom is an editor at Harlequin and has the job of her dreams. (Actually she has the job of my dreams as well. To read all day and get paid for it would be a dream come true for me as well.)

In Bloom’s book she starts from when she was in high school and the one dance that she goes to with one guy but ends of dancing with this other guy Sam. They never talked before or really after, but Sam does come around again in her life in the future. Bloom writes about the different guys that she dates and how they might remind her of the different types of guys you would read about in the romance books. (I’ll never look at dating the same again.) She even gives each type a name. Like other women she has had some dark days as well which her memoir covers most of the ups and downs. Even with a dark nightmare in her past, this book is mostly uplifting and very funny at times. She gives you hope that anyone can find true happiness and love.

The best part of the book is, as she talks about the different decades in her life, (no there are not that many she is about my age.) I could remember those times and the shows, and bands that she talked about. Some examples would be like the 80’s and Duran Duran. This makes it more enjoyable for me.

If you are looking for a memoir that you can laugh at and that gives you hope and that fuzzy warm feeling inside, then this would be the top on my list to recommend.
